Not As Easy As It Seems
It really seems to be one of the easiest things in the world. Take a couple of pills a day and your weight issues disappear. We are in the age where we expect that medication will solve all our problems whether they are health related or not. The advent of modern technology and research has meant that some clever people have come up with pills that aid weight loss. They have successfully marketed these to the developed world and those who have the resources have decided that this is the way forward if they are to achieve that ideal weight. When the pills first came onto the scene, people were waxing lyrical about them despite the reticence of some of the healthcare professionals. However as time went on, the easy solution turned out not to challenging.
There Is a Price to Pay
Like all things in life, the use of medication comes at a cost. The first cost is the actual money you pay to buy the medication. For rich people in developing countries this might appear to be little more than change money but the fact is that a significant part of your home budget can be frittered away at supporting the medication that you think you need in order to reach your ideal weight. You might consider that this is a good investment but the fact is that you are spending money which you could have used elsewhere. It could also become a long term commitment if you have to feed the medication on a regular basis for the rest of your life.
The second obvious costs are the side effects that you get from medication. Some of these might just be mild inconveniences such as headaches and slight dizziness. However some can be quite serious including blindness, weight gain, excessive weight loss, malnutrition, neurological problems, skin problems and gastro issues. These serious side effects might turn out to be so devastating that you prefer being overweight to suffering from them. The doctors and labels will do their bit in terms of explaining what is going to happen to you. However the ultimate decision as to whether you risk these side effects lies entirely within your powers and authority. In any case it is not a particularly pleasant experience to constantly be on medication. Taking pills should only be an occasional activity when you are not feeling well. When it becomes a daily routine, then life loses some of it sheen.
The other rather unfortunate fact is that some medication simply does not work. You might spend lots of money buying into your dream of a thin figure only to discover that the medication you are taking is nothing more than a placebo. There are plenty of charlatans who are more than willing to take advantage of foolish people who want to spend their money on ineffective medication. Sometimes you will find that even the weight loss that the medication purported to bring about was due to your own normal corrective action such as exercise rather than the medication itself.
