Diabetic Diet
Diabetes is a condition in which the level of glucose in the blood is too high, which makes the body produce less insulin, a hormone that is responsible for the prevention of the high levels of sugar. When blood has less of the hormone it becomes less active since it is unable to convert starch, essential nutrients and also the sugar into energy which is used by the body. The disease comes with major complications to the body, some of which are visual while others affect the inner parts of out body. There is a great problem if a diabetic does not detect the disease as early as possible because if discovered at the latter stages then it can not be controlled. Doctors also have problems with such people, as most diabetics have a problem with weight, which means the level at which they gain weight is higher than the expected one. There are some who end up being clinically obese.
There is also the belief that the only people who can contract the disease are the aged. This is not the case as statistics released show that there are very many young men and women who have the disease. There are also young children who have a problem since they are born with the disease. Having the disease should not be a death sentence as the best treatment for you is a balanced diet. The level of sugar intake will depend on the type of diabetes that you have.
Diabetics’ diet has components which are basic and they are foods with smaller amounts of sugar, plus the level of fat and cholesterol is not that high. The foods given to diabetics contain all the components which supply nutrients to the body; the best diet for a diabetic is fruits. We all know that fruits are very essential to our body since they add more nutrients to it, while at the same time strengthen the immune system, and in this way protecting against illnesses. They are also responsible for the digestion and metabolic process. Fruits are also responsible for the protection of the brain and any other diseases that may attack the brain. Hence they make sure that it is functioning well.
If you have been suffering from diabetes then it is time you take a lot of fruits. Avoid fruits rich in sugar and fat, as there are those that are specially recommended for diabetics. These are fruits rich in vitamins and minerals with less sugar and lower fibre content hence the best for diabetics. Examples of those fruits are listed here and include; apples, pears, olives, cherries, and many others. Diabetics should be careful not to consume, but avoid at all costs fruits that are not recommended especially canned ones, as most contain added sugars and preservatives that might not be good for the patients. Just take your time and study the fruits that you can consume, as recommended by the doctor, as prevention is better than cure.
